This week, several news sources reported that the Conference on Material Claims Against Germany, commonly referred to as the Claims Conference, released its most recent data showing that there are now approximately 196,000 Holocaust survivors alive today. About half of the survivors reside in Israel and 18% (35,280) live in North America, and 16% (31,360) in the United States.
The report also notes that the median age of survivors is 87, with 30% having reached 90 or older, and just over 1% having reached 100. Additionally, according to the report, 34% of survivors receive monthly pensions negotiated by the Claims Conference, and tens of thousands also rely on assistance for food security and basic needs.
Polish Pension Help recently placed an advertisement for our services in the Jewish Link, a local newspaper in the State of New Jersey in the US, and we received five (5) new inquiries, showing that there are still Polish-born survivors who have never heard of the Polish pension and for whom the pension would make a difference in their quality of life. If you have a client, family member or friend who is a Holocaust survivor born in Poland, we are happy to speak to the survivor or his or her representative and see if we can help.
